SNMPNG32: zenSnmpTrapSrv crashes when communicating with many SNMP agents

Summary

With SNMPNG32, the zenSnmpSrv crashes when communicating with about 60 or more SNMP agents. This has been fixed.

Description

A crash is caused by a stack error in the used NetSNMP library when polling the agents. This bug in the library has already been fixed by the publisher of the library. The new version of the NetSNMP library is intergated in zenon, but it requires a higher openSSL version, which cannot be included in zenon 8.00.

Additionally, now all agents that do not require polling are excluded from polling within the zenSnmpTrapSrv. This applies to all SNMPv1 agents, all SNMPv2c agents and SNMPv3 agents that do not use authentication or encryption. This avoids unnecessary network traffic.

As of zenon 8.10, the crash no longer occurs. zenon 8.00 can still communicate with a maximum of about 60 agents only if they use authentication and/or encryption.

To benefit from this fix:

  • Update your zenon Software Platform to the latest build of zenon 8.00 or higher.
