FAQ: How to Generate a CmDust Diagnostic File

How to Generate a CmDust Diagnostic File (CodeMeter Enduser Support Tool)

The CmDust tool is a diagnostic utility provided by Wibu-Systems to collect detailed information about your CodeMeter installation. It helps COPA-DATA support teams analyze licensing issues by generating a .log file with relevant system and licensing data.


Windows

  1. Open CmDust

    • Navigate to:
      Start → All Programs → CodeMeter → Tools → CmDust
      or

      • Press the Windows key, type CmDust, and press Enter.

  2. File Generation

    • A file named CmDust-Result.log is automatically created in your user directory.

    • Windows Explorer will open the location of this file after execution.

  3. Send the File to Support

    • Please send the CmDust-Result.log file to your COPA-DATA support contact for further analysis.


Contents of the CmDust File

The log file includes the following information:

  • Operating system version and language settings

  • Installed CodeMeter versions and components

  • Service packs and system configuration

  • License entries and status from CodeMeter License Server and WebAdmin

  • Network and proxy settings related to CodeMeter

  • Container details (CmContainers), software and hardware license entries

  • AddOns and CodeMeter extensions

Note: The CmDust log does not contain any passwords or user-specific encrypted data. It is safe to send to trusted support partners.
