How can I reset the password of a zenon Service Engine/Runtime User?
Resetting a password in the zenon Engineering Studio can be essential for maintaining security and managing user access to your project. zenon offers two different methods to reset a password: one through the zenon Engineering Studio and the other through the zenon Service Engine. In this knowledge base article, we will walk you through both of these methods step by step.
Resetting Password via zenon Engineering Studio
- Access User Administration: Launch the zenon Engineering Studio and open your project. In the navigation menu, click on "User Administration" > "Users"
- Select the User: From the list of users in your project, select the user for whom you want to reset the password.
- Open User Properties: Right-click on the selected user and choose "Properties" from the context menu or just click on the user.
- Set a New Password: In the User Properties dialog box, navigate to "Password". Click to change the password.
- Transfer Changes: After setting the new password, click on the "Configure Service Engine changable files" button to allow zenon to overwrite existing user data. Ensure that the checkbox labeled "Do not generate and transfer" is not selected to ensure the changes are saved and propagated to the zenon Service Engine.
- Save the project and generate and transfer the Service Engine Files.
Note that when you transfer changes, it may overwrite other user data in the zenon Service Engine if any changes were made there (e.g. in a user administration screen). Be aware that transferring the changed userdata, will also overwrite other users that may exist.
Resetting Password via zenon Service Engine
User Administration Screen: To use this method, your zenon project must have screens of the types "User List" and "Edit User". Ensure it is available and accessible within your project. Also, you need to have access to an Admin Account.
- Access the User Administration Screen: Open your zenon project and locate the User List Screen. It will list all your users and is only availble if it was engineered into the project.
- Reset Password: Once you have access to the User List screen, locate the user whose password you want to reset. Click on or select the user's entry.
- Change/Reset Password: In the user administration screen, there should be an option to edit the user. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a new password for the selected user.
- Save Changes: After setting the new password, make sure to save the changes within the user administration screen.
By following either of these methods, you can successfully reset a user's password in zenon Engineering Studio, maintaining security and ensuring smooth access control within your project.
