FAQ: Which browsers can be used for the zenon Smart Client and is NPAPI support required?

The zenon Smart Client is an mainly an ActiveX control and therefore requires NPAPI support. Due to the age of the API and its security issues, major web browser vendors began phasing out the support in 2013. As a result, the use of HTML5 technologies was encouraged. With zenon version 7.50 the HTML Web Engine was released to meet the new web standards and to support a wider range of devices and browsers. For the regular Smart Clients, the following information applies:

Recommended browser:
  1. Internet Explorer 11
Possible alternatives with NPAPI enabled:
  1. Chrome (version 42 and earlier)
  2. Firefox (Versions until 2015)
Browsers with discontinued NPAPI support:
  1. Google Chrome 45 (Since April 2015)
  2. Opera (Since May 2016)
  3. Microsoft Edge
