FAQ: Where can I find the XML device profile for COPA-DATA DNP3 drivers?

What is a DNP3 XML device profile? Where can I find the XML device profile for one of the following drivers?

DNP3_TG - Subset Level 1,2,3 and 4 for both requests and responses, DNP3 Master driver for zenon Service Engine
AccessDNP3_SG - Subset Level 1,2,3 DNP3 outstation driver for the process gateway
K5BusDNP3MCD - Subset Level 1,2,3 DNP3 master driver for straton / zenon Logic Service
K5BusDNP3SCD - Subset Level 1,2,3 DNP3 outstation driver for straton / zenon Logic Service

A DNP3 XML device profile is an electronic document that can have multiple purposes. One thing that it provides is a detailed information on the capabilities and subset level compliance of a device. Each device shall have its own XML device profile. For an outstation it lists the subset level compliance for requests. For a master it lists the subset level compliance for both requests and responses. Devices may implement additional functionality that is not specified for a subset level. Therefore the XML device profile also contains a detailed implementation table, listing all the combinations of function code, object group and qualifier codes, which the device supports.

The XML device profile can be used to specify requirements for a tender document. The XML device profile can also be used to compare if a specific device meets all the required functionality for a specific use case or project.

Outstations may also include a section in the document that contains a points table. DNP3 masters, like the DNP3_TG driver, may use such a device profile for offline automated creation of tags, in addition to online browsing of the outstation by issueing a class 0 poll.

The XML device profile of the DNP3_TG driver and the AccessDNP3_SG process gateway are installed with the zenon Service Engine installation, for the respective versions. Newer versions may document new functionality available in the version, so be sure to open the latest document.

Included with the XML device profile, is also the corresponding style sheet, which allows viewing the electronic document in a web browser.

For version 10, after installation, you can find the device profiles in the following directories:
C:\ProgramData\COPA-DATA\zenon1000\CommunicationProfiles\Dnp3\Driver
(DNP3_TG.xml, T5BusDNP3MCD.xml)

C:\ProgramData\COPA-DATA\zenon1000\CommunicationProfiles\Dnp3\ProcessGateway
(AccessDNP3_SG_ProcessGateway.xml, T5BusDNP3SCD.xml)
