Checklist: License problems when cloning a Virtual Machine
Time estimate: 15 minutes
Please go through all the points in the following checklist. If necessary, confirm with IT Department any information you cannot verify before contacting your local COPA-DATA Representative.
Checklist usage: #. [Quick hints] (point refers specific module/product) Point description.
- Screenshot and followed instructions of error/warning messages shown.
- Checked the status of the dongle in ‘CodeMeter Control Center’.
- When cloning VMs without deleting the software dongle in advance, two things can happen:
- Duplicated dongles:
- The dongle is going to be blacklisted and the licenses cannot be activated. Existing licenses on that dongle cannot be used anymore. Note down the licenses that are activated on the dongle and contact your local COPA-DATA representative.
- Broken dongles:
- Delete the software dongle on the cloned VM.
- Return the license on the initial VM (if possible. In case the original dongle is locked, the dongle has to be deleted and a replacement license has to be issued).
- Delete soft-dongle on the initial VM before creating the VM image.
- Create clone from the new VM image.
- In the new VM, open License Manager to create a new soft-dongle automatically.
- Activate license on the initial VM and activate a new license on the new VM.
Alternatively, you can de
lete soft-dongle on the initial VM and respective clones and after o
pen the License Manager on all machines to create new, unique soft-dongles.
If the problem persists after completing this checklist and followed corrective actions, please contact your local COPA-DATA Representative providing a SIC-Reduced Report from the target computer(s) and the result of this checklist – please include any additional information or comments related with the points addressed you find relevant.
System Information Collector is a standalone COPA-DATA application that collects relevant data about the Operating System and zenon Software Platform for troubleshooting purposes. SIC is installed with zenon and can be started from zenon Startup Tool (Tools).
