In the article KB5004442 published in 2021, Microsoft informs about upcoming changes to DCOM security, taking effect automatically on June 14th 2022. From this date, Windows systems with current security updates, require DCOM client and server applications to use an authentication level of RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY or higher.
DCOM technology is used when an OPC DA client communicates with an OPC DA server on a different Windows system. While COPA-DATA provides both an OPC DA client and an OPC DA server, OPC DA communication is officially only supported on the same local machine without making use of DCOM.
COPA-DATA has verified the changes described in KB5004442 and has tested in the current zenon version to confirm that the changes taking effect from June 14th 2022 to have no impact on products of the zenon software platform, specifically the OPC DA communication provided by the OPC DA client driver and / or the OPC DA server, on the local machine.
Note that OPC DA communication with an OPC DA server and/or OPC DA client on a different Windows system over the network utilizing DCOM technology, remains unsupported.
