Questions regarding functionality

Hey there,
I ordered my zenon Science Package for LEGO on the 13th but am still eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, I have a couple of things I'd like to know more about:
  • The firmware is a custom one but looks a lot like the standard firmware. Is this cosmetics and is the underlying firmware based on something else altogether?
  • Is it possible to make drivers for additional sensors using the programming languages this environment supports?
  • What is the target audience for this product?
  • Does it work with remote control (ie, the program runs on the PC, brick merely executes simple commands), much the same way Direct Commands work with the standard firmware?
