Option button background color wrong

I am trying to use an ActiveX UserControl that contains OptionButtons, a.k.a. Radio buttons. In the control, the background color is set to the default color and never changes, and it is fine in my PC test application, but when it is added to a Zenon picture, the background color is rendered all black, which is the foreground color of the text. In other words, it is a black rectangle with a small,clear circle that is the radio button. I have rebuilt the control and tried every way I can think of to force the color to behave, but to no avail. Any ideas? is this a known problem? is there a workaround?
