Monitor administration and screen resolution

Monitor administration and screen resolution

What do I need to consider regarding the screen resolution and templates before starting my first project?

With the default options for a new project, all screens are scaled on the target system to the actual screen resolution. If there are no large differences between the engineering station and the target runtime machine, this default setting (adapt to screen resolution) can be used in most cases.
E.g. if the engineering PC has a screen resolution of 1600 x 1200 and the future runtime PC has a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024, the screens created in the zenOn editor will be scaled down to the screen-resolution of 1280 x 1024 on the target runtime machine.
In this case a newly created template on the engineering station automatically receives the full screen resolution of the engineering station. (1600 x 1200) A template, created with the size 1280 x 1024, will only fill a part of the screen, even on the target runtime system!
To make sure you don't loose information when large differences between the screen resolution on the engineering station and the target runtime system exist, (e.g. 1600 x 1200 and a CE terminal with 640 x 480) or to prevent pixel differences in the runtime at 16:9 screen proportion on the engineering station and 4:3 on the target runtime station, you can predefine the target runtime screensize, and disable the option to adapt the screen-size to the target resolution, in the monitor administration.
This way, a newly created template gets the same pixelsize of the target runtime system. Please take in account a task-bar of the OS or a title-bar for the application if these are shown on the target runtime system. (You can configure a title-bar for the zenOn runtime application in the project properties. If the Windows taskbar is shown or not, is a Windows setting)
 Watch out however, if you change the target screen resolution when you have already created pictures in your project! All pictures and templates will be scaled to match the new target resolution!
The monitor administration can be found in the project properties in the zenOn editor, and are valid for the PC, not per project.
