SOs can only export their variables as xml, to change their properties easier i need them in excel format (.txt).

To achieve that I export variable from SO into xml import xml into main project and export them as .txt, do what needs to be done and then import back into main project, export as xml and import into SO.

However doing this destroys their link to the property and it needs to be assigned again.

I found a solution to this:

1) Put reaction matrix into its own SO and call it as SOr into SO with variables and as SO in main. This way the link is preserved when exporting. However updating matrixes takes longer time, because matrix SO is in several other SOs as well.
2) Export the variables SO creates in main project, delete prefixes created by SO, import to main project, export as xml and import in SO. However this is takes time because our project already has 30000 variables and you need to find the new variables.
Anyway to do this faster and/or smarter?
