Data extraction using function code 14

Hi, does anyone have any experience on using function code 14(read general reference) to extract data from a meter? Can share about the steps and software used to extract the data?
Zenon have a function that can send specific command(driver command) to selected driver, is this can be used to get the data? Thanks
