AD authentication without joining server to the domain

I would like to ask if it is possible to use the Domain controller as authorization authority without joining the PCs to the domain?
Technically this could simply work with LDAP(S).
If this is not currently implemented, is there any way to add new/external (developed by you or by the customer) authentication/authorization provider to the runtime - does the architecture of the application permists decoupling of these providers by use of some interfaces?

We alfready have Zenon on some production lines, but there is an ongoing project for a new line - that will also have Zenon. For the current line, the HMI PCs are joint to the domain, which presents some problems, because it is not in line with the S95 architecture. We would like to make the new and the old line fit into the architecture. The builders are not fully aware of the possibilities of your system. But these are not really forum topcis...
